MMS announces Safety Awards for Excellence (SAFE) finalists

The Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service has announced the national finalists for the Safety Awards for Excellence (SAFE) competition.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service has announced the national finalists for the Safety Awards for Excellence (SAFE) competition. Presented annually to Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas operators and contractors who achieve excellence in safety and pollution prevention, the National SAFE awards recognize outstanding performance by the offshore industry.


The 2009 SAFE categories and finalists:

High OCS Activity
Anadarko Petroleum
BP Corp North America
Devon Energy Production
Exxon Mobil

Moderate OCS Activity
Badger Oil
BHP Billiton Petroleum
Hunt Petroleum
Noble Energy

Drilling Contractor
Diamond Offshore Drilling
Ensco International
Noble Drilling

Production Contractor
Baker Energy
C&D Production Specialist
Danos & Curole Marine Contractors

OCS oil and gas operators from the high and moderate categories as well as drilling and production contractors are eligible to be selected as finalists for the award. A company that qualifies under the high activity category produces at least 10 MMbbl/year of oil and operates a minimum of 1,000 in-service components during the year. A moderate activity company produces at least 1 MMbbl/year of oil and operates a minimum of 100 in-service components during the year. The MMS selects one winner from each category.

The National SAFE Awards will be presented at an Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) luncheon on May 7, 2009.
