NEW ORLEANS -- Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico are evacuating platforms and rigs in the path of Tropical Storm Ida. Based on data from offshore reports submitted to the Minerals Management Service (MMS) today, operators have evacuated personnel from 126 production platforms, equivalent to 18.1 % of the 694 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Personnel from eight rigs have also been evacuated, equivalent to 12.1 % of the 66 rigs currently operating in the area.

MMS estimates that approximately 29.6 % of oil production and approximately 27.5 % of natural gas production has been shut-in.
