ABERDEEN, UK – A TAQA employee has been killed during a maintenance operation on the Harding platform in the UK central North Sea.
The company recently became operator of the installation afteracquiring BP’s interest last year.
The employee fell overboard and was recovered from the sea by a support vessel and transferred to a hospital in Shetland by helicopter.
A TAQA team, accompanied by investigators from Police Scotland and the UK’s Health and Safety Executive, has since arrived on the platform, 320 km (199 mi) northeast of Aberdeen.
The company will conduct its own inquiry and is cooperating fully with all external investigations.
All remaining staff on the platform have been accounted for, however TAQA has decided to shut down production and down-man 74 non-essential personnel from the installation.
