Statoil hires Schlumberger for North Sea drilling services

Statoil has contracted Schlumberger Norway for integrated drilling services on the North Sea licenses containing the Gullfaks, Gullfaks satellites, Snorre, Statfjord, Tordis/Vigdis, and Visund fields.

STAVANGER, NorwayStatoil has contracted Schlumberger Norway for integrated drilling services on the North Sea licenses containing the Gullfaks, Gullfaks satellites, Snorre, Statfjord, Tordis/Vigdis, and Visund fields.

The agreement, which extends to exploration drilling on the Norwegian continental shelf, starts Sept. 1. The initial duration is for two years, with three optional two-year extensions. Total value for the initial period is NOK 1.15 billion ($184 million).

Services covered include directional drilling, measurement-while-drilling (MWD), logging-while-drilling (LWD), and mud logging services. In addition, Schlumberger will provide real-time data transfer, integrated operations/onshore support, drilling optimization, and drilling equipment. 

The contractor has been providing these services to Statoil for several years and has extensive operational experience on the licenses.
