STAVANGER -- Norway's ministry of petroleum and energy has announced the APA 2008, which has expanded from 2007. APA 2008 comprises the predefined areas with blocks in the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, and the Barents Sea.

The predefined areas are expanded with 18 new blocks or parts of blocks compared with APA 2007. Eleven of these new blocks are in the North Sea, three in the Norwegian Sea, and four are in the Barents Sea.

Blocks which are relinquished in the application period are included in the predefined area consecutively. The application deadline is 12:00 on Oct. 3, 2008. The awards will be made at the turn of the year 2008/2009.

In APA 2008, applications can be made for all blocks or parts of blocks in the predefined areas that are not already included in a license at the deadline date. This entails that acreage which is relinquished in the application period will be announced when relinquished.
