Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico are re-boarding platforms and rigs and restoring production following both Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike, according to the Minerals Management Service.

NEW ORLEANS -- Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico are re-boarding platforms and rigs and restoring production following both Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike, according to the Minerals Management Service.
Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted today, personnel have been evacuated from 498 production platforms, equivalent to 69.5% of the 717 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
Personnel from 71 rigs have also been evacuated; this is equivalent to 58.7% of the 121 rigs currently operating in the Gulf.
From the operators' reports, it is estimated that approximately 97.2% of the oil production in the Gulf has been shut-in. It is also estimated that approximately 84.2% of the natural gas production in the Gulf has been shut-in.
