TEHRAN -- Loading operations have started for two new platform tripods for the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.

Each of the tripod structures, built at IOEC’s Khoramshahr Yard, are 83 m (272 ft) high and weigh 1,100 tons. They were due to be loaded onto the Abozar 1200 vessel for subsequent installation on the South Pars Phase 17 and Phase 18.

Khorramshar has also completed construction of five decks for this project.

Phases 17 and 18 are designed to produce 50 MMcm (17.6 bcf) of gas, 70 MMcm (2.47 bcf) of ethane and 400 t/d of sulfur. Start-up of Phase 17 is scheduled for July 2012, followed two months later by Phase 18.
