(Trinidad & Tobago)- Calgary-based Canadian Superior Energy announced plans to drill three wells offshore Trinidad in the Intrepid block over the next three years. A joint venture for the block was signed in July of this year, and drilling is planned to commence as soon as a rig becomes available, according to Canadian Superior's Trinidad Ops Manager Roger De Freitas.
The block is located approximately 55 mi east of Trinidad, and was part of Trinidad's ministry of energy and energy industries 2003-2004 bidding round. All wells in the Intrepid block are scheduled to be drilled from a semisubmersible drilling rig in water depths ranging from 500-1500 ft.
In additional offshore Trinidad news, Canadain Superior is waiting to formally sign a joint venture contract for the Mayaro/Guayaguayare (M/G) block, De Freitas said. The contract was awarded two years ago, and involves a block that is in shallow water close to the shore. DeFreitas mentioned that signing of the contract is imminent, and they will immediately begin shooting seismic in the area once the contract is official.
The Intrepid and M/G blocks will bring Canadian Superior's total drilling area to 135,000 acres.
