ST JOHN’S, Canada – The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) has issued a Call for Nominations (Areas of Interest) NL20-CFN01 – Eastern Newfoundland.

This will assist the C-NLOPB in selecting an offshore sector for introduction into the scheduled land tenure system.

Nominations must be submitted by March 11, with nominated offshore areas no greater than 2 million ha (20,000 sq km).

A Call for Bids could follow in March/April 2022, closing in November 2022.

The Eastern Newfoundland Region was included in the Board’s Eastern Newfoundland Strategic Environmental Assessment. This examines the environmental effects that may be associated with a plan, program, or policy proposal and allows for the incorporation of environmental considerations at the earliest stages of program planning.

In addition, a Regional Assessment of Offshore Exploratory Drilling East of Newfoundland and Labrador is under way.
