Rhino Resources finds more hydrocarbons offshore Namibia, opens new play fairway
Rhino Resources has made a third consecutive discovery offshore Namibia in Block 2914A in the Orange Basin (Petroleum Exploration License 85).
The Volans-1X well, spudded by the semisub Deepsea Mira on July 31, intersected 26 m of net pay in rich gas condensate-bearing reservoirs with good-quality petrophysical properties and no observed water contact.
The well reached 4,497.5 m TVDSS on Aug. 30, having successfully penetrated the Upper Cretaceous target.
Laboratory analysis on two samples taken from the top and base of the reservoir interval exhibited a high condensate to gas ratio (CGR) of >140 and a liquid density of about 40° API gravity, the company added.
During wireline logging operations, multiple hydrocarbon samples and sidewall cores were retrieved. Laboratory analysis will continue of the remaining fluid samples studies side wall cores and cuttings collected.
Rhino CEO Travis Smithard said the discovery “of a high liquid yield gas condensate in excellent quality reservoir…further enhances our understanding of the subsurface."
“This well result opens up an exciting new play fairway within the license, identifying different reservoir and fluid type in this well from the recent discoveries made at Sagittarius-1X and Capricornus-1X," he continued. “Rhino, in collaboration with our partners Azule Energy, NAMCOR and Korres, will now evaluate the results of the ongoing testing and integrate them into blockwide prospectivity studies.”
