WOKING, UK – Shell has completed a farm-in to the Transkei & Algoa exploration right offshore eastern South Africa (Exploration Right reference 12/3/252).

The company now operates with a 50% interest, the remainder held by Impact Africa. South Africa’s government has approved the license’s second renewal period which runs for two years.

Shell/Impact plan to acquire around 6,000 sq km (3,728 sq mi) of 3D seismic over the concession next year.

Siraj Ahmed, Impact’s CEO, said: “We look forward to working with Shell to build on the considerable work done to date and further explore this exciting exploration province.

“This transaction, and the proposed 3D seismic acquisition program, enables Impact to deliver on its objective of accelerating the exploration of the transform margin of the South African Natal Trough, which Impact believes has significant potential.”

Exploration Right 12/3/252, Transkei & Algoa covers around 45,838 sq km (28,482 sq mi) in water depths of up to 3,000 m (9,842 ft). The license was initially awarded to Impact as a Technical Cooperation Permit in 2012, followed by an application for an Exploration Right, granted in 2014.
