MELBOURNE, Australia – Namibia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has extended the sub-period of Global Petroleum’s offshore license PEL0094 (block 2011A) by a year to September 2021, and has also agreed to modify the work commitments.

According to the company, which has a 78% operated interest, the four-year Initial Exploration Period was split into two sub-periods of two years each, with the first due to end this September.

Block 2011A covers an area of 5,798 sq km (2,238 sq mi) in the Walvis basin offshore northern Namibia, in water depths ranging from 400-1,500 m (1,312-4,921 ft).

Last week Global Petroleum issued updated potential resources for the block’s Marula and Welwitschia Deep prospects following interpretation of 3D seismic data licensed earlier this year.

Under the revised work program, the focus going forward will be licensing of existing seismic and studies concerning the two prospects.
