Serica lines up North Sea drilling campaign to add up to 30,000 boe/d

The company is nearing a rig contract for a 2027-28 UK North Sea campaign focused on Bruce field developments, while progressing multiple gas tieback projects and exploration opportunities that could support long-term production growth.

Why this news matters:

  • Serica believes the planned drilling campaign could add up to 30,000 boe/d of incremental production, making it a key growth initiative for the company.

  • Multiple North Sea projects are advancing simultaneously, including Bruce, Kyla, Edradour Royal Sovereign, and Spinnaker developments.

  • The campaign highlights continued investment in near-field developments and gas tiebacks to extend the life of existing UK offshore infrastructure.

Serica is close to contracting a rig for a multi-well campaign in the UK North Sea area during 2027-28, targeting near-field opportunities, according to the company’s latest quarterly report.

Potentially, the program could boost the company’s incremental production by up to 30,000 boe/d.

Serica aims to sustain production of 50,000 boe/d into the 2030s.

The company has settled on the sequence of wells that the rig will drill on the Bruce Field in the UK northern North Sea, namely the WAD5, SCE Development, and SCW Development wells.

All will require an environmental screening direction rather than the standard environmental statement (ES), which should shorten the regulatory approval timetable.

At present, the company aims to start drilling on Bruce next summer, with first production following within 12 months.

Serica has also submitted an ES and field development plan for the Kyla (ex-Kyle) Field and plans to issue further ES/development plans shortly for Edradour Royal Sovereign and Spinnaker (ex-Glendronach) west of Shetland as gas tie-ins to the Greater Laggan Area subsea pipeline system.

In addition, the company (as partner) has approved Ithaca Energy’s plans to add two further wells to the current infill drilling campaign at the Cygnus Field in the UK southern North Sea, plus further infill wells at Clipper South and Catcher (operated respectively by INEOS and Harbour Energy).

Serica is also progressing a long-term goal of drilling the Skerryvore prospect on the P2400 license using a separately contracted rig. Skerryvore is thought to hold 134 MMboe of low-cost prospective resources in two different reservoirs, within tieback range of multiple host facilities.

Finally, negotiations continue concerning commercial terms for Ithaca’s Tornado gas field development through the onshore Shetland Gas Plant.
