bp has started production from its Murlach Field development in the UK central North Sea via a two-well subsea tieback to the company’s Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP) hub.

The project, approved in 2023, involved a redevelopment of a field produced originally in the early 2000s. bp acquired the field’s license after it was relinquished by the previous operator.

For Murlach, bp commissioned new subsea equipment but also reused some existing facilities, while modifying the topsides of the ETAP central processing platform.

Murlach should add 15,000 boe/d to production at the ETAP hub, which has been operating for 27 years.
