Eni has produced first gas from the Merakes East Field in the East Sepinggan Block in the Kutei Basin offshore Indonesia.

Merakes East, in 1,600 m water depth, is roughly 10 km east of the Merakes Field. Production is exported via a subsea connection to the Jangkrik FPU about 50 km away.

Following initial processing on the platform, the gas will head via a subsea pipeline network to the Bontang liquefaction plant, which supplies LNG for use domestically and for exports overseas.

At peak, the field should deliver up to 100,000 MMcf/d of gas.

Eni said this project, and the recent approval of its plans of development for the offshore Northern Hub and Gendalo-Gendang development, followed good cooperation with SKK Migas, Indonesia’s upstream regulator and supervisor.

The company expects to produce up to 2 Bcf/d of gas and 90,000 bbl/d of condensate in the offshore Kutei Basin once the North Hub and Gendalo-Gandang fields have come onstream.
