STAVANGER, Norway – Newbuild shuttle tankers will lift and transport Equinor’s share of oil from the Roncador field in the Campos basin offshore Brazil.

Earlier this year the company completed acquisition of a 25% interest in the field from operator Petrobras.

It has now entered into time charter contracts with Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers for the two vessels, which will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.

“This will be a long-term lifting solution,” said Kjetil Johnsen, head of Shipping at Equinor. “With these modern and fuel-efficient vessels, we will evacuate the crude oil in a safe, sustainable, and cost-efficient way.”

The vessels are designed specifically for operations in Brazilian waters and optimized for the intended trading pattern. They should enter service in 2020 and will comply with all requirements for offshore loading in Brazil.

Equinor at present has seven conventional tankers on long-term contracts at its operated Peregrino field in the same basin.
