STAVANGER, Norway --BP Norge has submitted its development plan for the Skarv and Idun fields gas and oil fields in the Norwegian Sea. Both will be produced via a large FPSO with subsea wells, exporting gas through an 80 km (50 mi) pipeline connecting to the Aasgard trunkline system.

The two fields were discovered in 1998-99, 35 km (22 mi) south of Statoil's Norne complex and 45 km (28 mi) north of Heidrun. Water depths for the development range from 350-450 m (1,148-1,476-ft).

Both fields contain hydrocarbons at three reservoir levels, with total recoverable reserves estimated at 16.8 MMcm (105.7 MMbbl) of oil and 48.3 bcm (1.7 tcf) of gas. BP is aiming for first production in summer 2011, and has identified further prospects in the area that could be tied back to the FPSO at a later stage.
