OSLO, Norway --Norway's government has pledged $25.5 million towards seismic surveys in the Nordland VII and Troms II areas.

This is a follow-up to a previous grant of $12.75 million, allocated this year to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. NPD started gathering 2D seismic in these areas this summer, and plans further 2D and 3D surveys in 2008.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has commissioned the program, to provide data on reserves potential in the region, under its `High North' strategy.

The government is also making more funds available next year for mapping of the Norwegian continental shelf in the Antarctic, in line with requirements of the UN Convention on Law of the Sea.
