WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG) has produced the five millionth barrel of oil from its Tui area oil project off the Taranaki coast. Production from the field began in July and the company achieved the milestone in just over four months.

NZOG has also received the topsides for its Kupe project offshore platform. The steel structure will be installed on the jacket, which is now in place in the Kupe Central field, off the South Taranaki coast. Three production wells will be drilled over the coming months.

The Kupe project is on schedule for production by mid-2009.
