YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Russia --Sakhalin Energy produced around 12.4 MMbbl of oil this year through its Molikpaq platform off Sakhalin Island.

This represented an increase of 800,000 bbl over the total for the 2006 production season. Since the platform started handling oil in 1999, it has delivered cumulative cashflow of over $250 million to the Russian Federation.

The improvement came despite significant commissioning activity this season. Mainly this related to new equipment for the Molikpaq to permit hook-up of a new offshore pipeline system. This should allow year-round oil production in 2008.

Production also ended earlier than usual this fall, due to damage to the single anchor leg mooring buoy that came to light following a shutdown for bad weather.
