OSLO, Norway --Aibel is supplying its vessel internal electrostatic coalescer (VIEC) technology for BP Norge's new production/accommodation platform for the Valhall field in the North Sea.

Fabricom Mid-Norge placed the contract, which involves installing two VIEC walls in the platform's first-stage separator. They will be delivered to Fabricom early in October.

Aibel's president, R. Rasmus Sunde, said the VIEC technology improves oil/water separation, leading to improved control and higher production.

"Where heavy oil is involved, we are seeing remarkable results in terms of low water-in-oil content, cleaner produced water, and reductions in the amount of demulsifier chemicals required – all important influencing factors behind BP's choice," he says.
