ISTANBUL, Turkey --Gas production has started flowing from the East Ayazli field development in the Turkish sector of the Black Sea.

This is the second field start-up in TPAO's South Akcakoca sub-basin project, following Akkaya this May. Combined stabilized output from the two fields should reach around 35MMcf/d of gas – East Ayazli had been delayed due to the need to repair a gas pipeline.

According to partner Stratic Energy, the first phase should be completed by mid-October, when the third field, Ayazli, comes on stream. The deck for the Ayazli platform has been completed and is on its offshore location awaiting installation via a lift-barge onto the tripod. Two pre-drilled wells will be ready for tieback operations once the deck has been set.

Added output from Ayazli will push production to over 50MMcf/d. The partners have also approved a Phase 2 development concept for the deeper water discoveries, which will entail a separate installation on the Akcacoka field. TheAtwood Southern Cross semisubmersible soon will drill an exploratory well on the Bati Eskikale prospect to the east of Akcacoka, targeting the same stacked pay sands in the Eocene Kusuri formation that has proven gas in this area.
