ABERDEEN, UK --Production at Gaz de France Britain's Minke gas field in the southern North Sea has run into problems.

GdF developed Minke in UK Quadrant 44 via a subsea link to the company's D15 platform in the Dutch sector. The first well came on stream this June, but output has fallen to 20MMcf/d of gas, 50% below expectations.

Preliminary tests suggest an incident in the well restricted the initial reservoir connection. The partners are working on a solution, but have not revised their estimate of in-place gas.

GdF is continuing to work on development planning for its nearby Orca field. Partner Faroe Petroleum expects a decision on this project some time next year.
