ABERDEEN, UK --Oil production is under way at the Nexen-operated Buzzard field in the UK North Sea. According to co-venturer BG Group, output should build to a probable peak this year of 200,000 b/d, with 60MMcf/d of gas. To date, nine producer and five injector wells have been drilled.

Original operator PanCanadian discovered Buzzard in May 2001. The $2.78 billion development is one of the largest in the UK for over a decade. The field, with estimated recoverable reserves of over 500 MM bbl, has the potential to supply around 10% of the UK's annual demand when operating at peak rates.
