MMS publishes new flaring/venting rules

Washington, D.C. – The final Minerals Management Service rules on limits to flaring or venting natural gas now are available in the Federal Register.
Among other things, the revised rule requires installation of meters to “accurately measure all flared and vented natural gas on facilities that process more than 2,000 b/d of oil.” Prior to this rule, both flaring and venting amounts were reported in combination.
The rule also establishes under what circumstances and for what length of time natural gas can be flared or vented.
