CALGARY, Alberta -- Commissioning of the fourth platform at the Buzzard field complex in the UK North Sea is progressing well, according to operator Nexen.
The company is bringing forward start-up activities from the scheduled period early next year, allowing the new platform to enter service during October. As a result, production from Buzzard should return to full rates before year-end.
President and CEO Marvin Romanow said: "Many of the people currently involved in hook-up and commissioning activities are the same people that will be involved in the start-up. By moving immediately to the start-up phase, we maximize cost efficiencies and shorten operational disruptions."
Elsewhere in the UK North Sea, Nexen has ramped up the Ettrick field facilities to full capacity. These gains will help offset temporary declines caused by unscheduled downtime at Buzzard to repair a separator, and an eight-week shutdown of the Scott platform to allow for the Forties pipeline operator to repair a valve failure.
