EDINBURGH, UK -- Melrose Resources has achieved first gas from its Kavarna and Kaliakra gas field developments offshore Bulgaria.
The two fields, in the Galata exploration concession, contain combined reserves of 74 bcf. At peak, they should deliver combined output of 45 MMcf/d.
Both were developed via single subsea wells tied back to the Galata field production platform, from where the gas is exported by pipeline to Melrose’s onshore gas plant near Varna for processing.
The company plans to implement a similar development for its recent 12 bcf East Kavarna find, which could extend the combined production plateau period to around three years.
In parallel, Melrose has concluded gas sales agreements for the fields, most of this having been sold to state-owned utility Bulgargaz, and the remainder to a local industrial user.
