HOUSTON – Perdido has first oil says Marvin Odum, president, Shell Oil Co. The Gulf of Mexico facility is the world’s deepest spar in about 2,450 m (8,000 ft) of water and uses multiple subsea separation and boosting stations.
“This is a new frontier in many respects,” said Odum. “Perdido’s floating production facility can be expanded to serve the future potential in the area, and we can apply the technology and expertise utilized at Perdido to other similarly challenging environments in the future.”
The development is expected to ramp up to 100,000 boe/d. The spar has five producing wells and one injector. The producers will be brought online over the next month to six weeks in keeping with the flow assurance plan.
This is the first Paleogene production ever in the GoM, Odom said, and so Perdido opens up a new prospective producing horizon for further work. The subsea boosting makes this possible because the oil at that depth is low pressure.
