ExxonMobil starts offshore Nigeria gas reinjection

IRVING, Texas -- Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited started a $1.3-billion gas reinjection project offshore Nigeria in blocks OML 67 and OML 70.

The East Area Additional Oil Recovery project is 17 mi (28 km) offshore. MPN, with 40% interest, is operator with partner Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. holding 60%.

The project involves gas reinjection to increase ultimate recovery of oil. The project expects to produce 530 MMbbl additional oil at a peak production of 120,000 b/d.

System components include a gas compression complex, seven associated platforms, and more than 100 mi (161 km) of new pipelines.
