ABERDEEN, UK -- Petrofac's Resources division has acquired a 60% operating interest in UK North Sea block 211/18a, which includes the Don Southwest discovery. The previous acreage holders, BP and ConocoPhillips, sold the remaining 40% to Valiant Petroleum subsidiary Don Development Company.

Petrofac and Valiant also hold 50% each of adjoining block 211/18c, awarded under the UK's 23rd Licensing Round. They plan to re-map both blocks using recently re-processed seismic data.

The Don Southwest area contains numerous wells which have produced hydrocarbons in the Brent formation. Petrofac Resources will work with the company's engineering and construction and operations services divisions on a development solution. Export options include a satellite tieback to Thistle, Murchison, or Magnus.
