FREDERICIA, Denmark -- On Aug. 31, following an inspection revealing cracks in a subsea structure connected to the oil storage tank underneath the Siri platform in the Danish North Sea, operator DONG Energy halted production from the field.

The cracks developed due to the failure of grouting material designed to fix the caisson. No oil discharge or other pollution was detected from the cracks, the company says.

The company has developed a temporary solution that will take the load off the caisson by connecting it to a drilling rig with specially designed lifting gear.

Production is expected to resume next month, depending on weather conditions, third-party verification of the temporary solution, and regulatory approvals.

DONG Energy's partners in the area are Noreco and RWE.
