PARIS -- Total has started production from the Atla gas condensate field in the Norwegian North Sea, two years after completion of exploration drilling.

Atla is in block 25/5, part of the PL102C license. The field was developed as asubsea tieback to Total-operated Skirne/Byggve subsea system, which is connected to the Heimdal platform 24 km (14.9 mi) to the southwest.

Production from Atla should build to an average flow rate of 14,000 boe/d next year, including 2,500 b/d of condensates.

Patrice de Viviès, Total’s senior VP Exploration & Production for Northern Europe, said:“The Atla discovery was made in October 2010, in the frame of our nearby exploration program. The fast track development was completed within budget and schedule and will have a very quick return.’

Partners in the development are Petoro, Centrica, and Det Norske Oljeselskap.
