NEW ORLEANS –Oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico continue to evacuate platforms and rigs while keeping watch on the movement of tropical storm Isaac.
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Hurricane Response Team says 39 production platforms out of the 596 total manned platforms in the GoM have evacuated while personnel from eight of the 76 offshore rigs have evacuated. BSEE says that operator reports indicate almost 25% of GoM oil production and 8.25% of the gas production is shut in as of noon on Aug. 26.
Among the operators evacuating personnel are BP, Anadarko, Apache, BHP Billiton, and Chevron. Royal Dutch Shell says it plans to start evacuation today from eastern GoM facilities.
