ABERDEEN, UK --Stratic Energy is seeking a rig to appraise the Cairngorm discovery in UK North Sea blocks 16/2b and 16/3d.

A subsurface study of the fractured granite reservoir encountered in the discovery well suggests the flow rate was constrained by premature cementing of the well prior to testing.

Fracture studies based on analysis of 3D seismic data have led to formulation of a dynamic reservoir model which indicates that the Cairngorm granite is suitable for development.

Stratic has also identified other leads and prospects in shallower Tertiary sandstones in this region. It plans to drill a well later this year targeting two of the prospects, before intersecting the Cairngorm granite reservoir. This well will also be designed for re-use as the first of two producers in any future development.

In block 15/24a, Stratic is partner to operator Nippon Oil, which aims to drill an appraisal well late this year or early 2009 on the Bowmore gas-condensate discovery. The well will be designed to test the interpreted extension and thickening of reservoir sand down-dip.
