STAVANGER, Norway --Total and Halliburton's Sperry Drilling Service has agreed on a project to develop high temperature LWD/MWD tools using Victoria field offshore Norway as a test bed.
The Prometheus Project, also in cooperation with ENI and StatoilHydro, aims to extend the functions beyond 30,000 psi (207 MPa)/175ºC (340 ° C), which now are possible with Geo Pilot hardware. Sperry says it intends to push the limits to 35,000psi/230° C from now through 2011.
Among the technologies expected to be researched are downhole refrigeration, cold-plate technology, flasking, and phase change materials.
Sperry's Houston Technology Center will be the responsible entity. However, says Sperry, the project will feature collaboration across several companies and several countries.
