PARIS – GDF Suez E&P Nederland has started production from the G16a-C gas field in the Dutch North Sea.

The field was discovered in 2009, 133 km (82 mi) northeast of the port of Den Helder. Partners in the G16a licence are GDF Suez (60%) and state-owned EBN (40%).

Development involved construction of a new platform which was installed in July. This comprises a topside with a weight of around 1,200 tons supported by a four-legged tubular steel jacket weighing 1,000 tons.

Produced gas is transported through the offshore pipeline system of Noordgastransport, operated by GDF Suez E&P Nederland, to the onshore gas treatment facilities in Uithuizen.

The field has probable reserves of 2.3 bcm (81 bcf).
