SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Mellitah Oil & Gas, the joint venture operating company between NOC and Eni, has restarted gas production from the Sabratha platform offshore Libya.

Production will ramp up gradually from 4-5 MMcm/d (141-177 MMcf/d) at present to 11-13 MMcm/d (388-459 MMcf/d) later this month, with all 15 platform wells progressively reopened.

Further production will be added when the subsea wells go onstream next year.

As prior to the shutdown last February, enforced by the recent conflict, the gas will be processed at the onshore Mellitah treatment plant complex then transported north to Italy via the Greenstream pipeline, which was re-opened on Oct. 13.

The Sabratha platform is 110 km (68 mi) northwest of Tripoli in the Mediterranean Sea. It produces gas from the Bahr Essalam field, which is also a source of gas supply for consumption in Libya.
