Excelerate to construct Bangladesh’s first FLNG terminal

Excelerate Energy, Petrobangla, and the government of Bangladesh have signed agreements covering construction and operation of the Moheshkhali floating LNG terminal.

DHAKA, Bangladesh – Excelerate Energy, Petrobangla, and the government of Bangladesh have signed agreements covering construction and operation of the Moheshkhali floating LNG terminal.

The facility will be stationed offshore and close to Moheshkhali Island in theBay of Bengal, providing the infrastructure for the country to import natural gas from global markets. Excelerate expects the terminal to be in operation in 2018.

The company will supply one of its existing floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) with 138,000 cu m of LNG storage capacity and a base re-gasification capacity of 500 MMcf/d, linked to a subsea buoy system anchored offshore.

Excelerate will develop, design, construct, install, finance, and then operate the facility over a 15-year period. Thereafter, ownership will transfer to Petrobangla.
