FASTrak cuts costs, time of Umm Shaif reservoir analysis

ABU DHABI, UAE – Teams from the Umm Shaif Reservoir & Production Operations and Drilling divisions have collaborated to plan, select, and execute ADMA-OPCO’s first reservoir fluid characterization and sampling while drilling campaign.
The goal was to measure fluid mobility and to confirm the fluid type present in the complex reservoirs of the mature offshoreUmm Shaif field.
ADMA-OPCO invited suggestions for ways of reducing cost and time on its offshore operations through application of innovative techniques in place or more conventional methodologies to meet current rig time and cost optimization needs.
The new technology, namedFASTrak and developed in collaboration with Baker Hughes, was deemed safer and more efficient than typical wireline field tests, generating cumulative savings of more than $28 million, along with savings in rig-time, improved operational enhancement, risk reduction, and resolution of pay zone uncertainties resulting in more strongly performing oil wells.
Traditionally field tests are conveyed on a drill pipe, the process taking an average of one week of rig days in addition to the associated risks of downhole sticking, well control issues due to limited circulation, and weak bottomhole assembly.
After assessing and validating FASTrak over several months, ADMA-OPCO determined it was safer and more efficient than its current wireline field tests.
The company is now considering expansion of the application to its other asset units and also rolling it out with other contractors.
