NEW ORLEANS — Operators in the Gulf of Mexico are evacuating platforms and rigs in preparation for Tropical Depression No. 9, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted as of 11:30 a.m. CDT today, personnel have been evacuated from a total of 10 production platforms, 1.33% of the 750 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
Personnel have been evacuated from one rig (non-dynamically positioned rig), equivalent to 9.09% of the 11 rigs of this type currently operating in the Gulf.
A total of five DP rigs have moved off location out of the storm’s path as a precaution. This number represents 26% of the 19 DP rigs currently operating in the Gulf.
Also from operator reports, it is estimated that about 19.52% of the current oil production and about 10.59% of the natural gas production in theGulf of Mexico have been shut-in.Â
