BP gets go-ahead for gas lift at Valhall offshore Norway
BP has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for use of gas lift at the Valhall IP platform in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
Valhall, an oil field in 70 m (229 ft) of water, was originally developed with accommodation, drilling, and production platforms. In 1996, BP added a wellhead platform (Valhall WP) with slots for 19 extra wells.
All four facilities are linked by bridges. A water injection facility was installed centrally on the field in 2003.
Increased water production is likely as a result of the water injection, and gas lift is needed to maintain stable production from the wells at IP.
