Sandvik has introduced new software to aid selection of its wireline material grades.
Hostile operating conditions place greater demands on slicklines and logging cables. Choosing the right grade to meet requirements reduces the risk of downtime and leads to improved wireline performance. But the selection process can be time-consuming, and there is a risk of choosing a higher grade than might be necessary for a given well.
Sandvik’s new program is designed to speed up this process. The company says that material grade selection is governed by a number of factors relating to the well and whether the hydrocarbons are sweet, medium, or sour. These factors include:
- Bottomhole pressure
- Hydrogen sulfide content
- Carbon dioxide content
- Chlorides.
Once the user has entered these parameters, the program selects a grade that meets the needs of the well, and lists alternatives grades for consideration. The result, the company claims, is the most cost-effective grade for the application, based on data from the well.
It adds that the program will eliminate potential errors (given the accuracy of the well data), in this way reducing the time and effort involved in wireline grade selection to a few seconds.
Sandvik has demonstrated the new software to several clients operating in the North Sea.
