Refurbished LB200 steaming ahead with Zeepipe, NorFra pipelay

The Paris-based contractor dedicated its spare time to upgrading its laybarge LB200 in Rotterdam, ready for a series of major projects for Statoil and its partners over the next few years. When Maersk sought to improve oil and gas processing from Denmark's Tyra West Field, it wanted to do so without major modifications to the platform. The aim was one piece of equipment that could combine three different functions: separating the crude, recovering the condensates and dehydrating the gas.

NAT, the chosen contractor designed and supervised manufacture of a solution within nine months, called the Integrated Production Facility (IPF). This is a column measuring 2.6 meters diameter by 18m high and comprising a vertical three-phase separator, a condensate recovery unit and a glycol contactor.

It also incorporates NAT's tri-phasic, vertical offshore compact separator, with the condensate recovery scrubber and gas/glycol contactor mounted on top. Commissioning was completed in two weeks in June 1994, with the module installed adjacent to the existing Tyra West platform.

Although designed to handle initially 330,000Nm3/hr of gas, 270 cu m/hr of oil and 270 cu m/hr of water, the IPF was recently operating at half capacity waiting for new wells to come onstream.
