Barents Sea gas plant offline again following leak

STAVANGER, Norway — Equinor has halted a gas leak that occurred yesterday at the Hammerfest LNG plant at Melkøya northern Norway.

The company’s emergency response organization has been demobilized, and work is underway to restore normal operations. At this stage, however, it is unclear when production can resume.

At the time of the incident, 98 people were present at the complex, but no injuries have been reported.

The facility receives production from various gas fields in the Barents Sea. It was only reopened earlier this year after a lengthy repair program following fire damage.
