LONDON  Tullow Oil has signed a production sharing contract for exploration license CI-803 offshore Côte d'Ivoire, adjacent to its existing concession CI-524.

The company will operate with a 90% interest, the remainder held by state-owned Petroci.

According to Tullow, the award strengthens its position in an area of the Tano Basin where significant prospectivity has been identified in Cretaceous turbidite plays, similar to those that have produced for years in the TEN and Jubilee fields offshore Ghana.

The initial 2.5-year work program includes reprocessing of 3D seismic data and prospect evaluation. Tullow is maturing drilling candidates in CI-524 and aims to drill an exploration well in 2024.
