DALLAS, Texas  Kosmos Energy and its partners in Block C8 offshore Mauritania are negotiating a new production sharing contract (PSC) with the government covering the BirAllah and/or Orca discoveries.

Under the new agreement, the partners will likely have two years to submit a development plan for these finds, with terms substantially similar to those of the former PSC, but with potentially enhanced back-in rights for the government, local content and other stipulations.

As for Yakaar-Teranga, another giant offshore gas-condensate field to the south discovered by Kosmos, the partners are progressing a first phase development concept with the government of Senegal, focused on a domestic gas solution.

Phase 1 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project off Mauritania/Senegal, operated by bp, was more than 80% complete recently.

According to Kosmos, construction and mechanical completion activities continue for the FLNG vessel and commissioning work has begun. Mechanical completion loop checks continue for the FPSO, with commissioning here too underway.

All 21 caissons have been installed at the hub terminal. Piling installation is nearing completion while the living quarters platform is in transit to the offshore location.

Subsea equipment has started to arrive, and the export pipeline is currently being laid. Two of the four wells required for first gas have been drilled and a third is progressing.

However, bp has been unable to make up the delay from the lockdown of the FPSO yard in April, compounded by COVID-19 restrictions in China. The FPSO is now set to depart the yard in the fourth quarter, with first gas still scheduled for third-quarter 2023 and first LNG at the end of next year.

Planning continued to develop and optimize Phase 2 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project. In light of changes in global gas markets, the partners are working with the host governments on a solution that would make best use of the Phase 1 infrastructure.

A development decision is due later toward the end of the third quarter.

Elsewhere in West Africa, Kosmos and its partners have chosen a rig for the next phase of development drilling on Block G offshore Equatorial Guinea, with activity set to start in the second half of next year.
