LUDWIGSHAVEN, Germany – BASF’s OASE purple technology is now operating on Petronas’ FLNG vessel PFLNG Dua offshore Malaysia.

This is the first FLNG reference for the gas treatment process, an amine-based solution used for the removal of acid gases such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from natural gas.

Removal of acid gases allows the gas to be prepared for the liquefaction and subsequent pipeline transportation.

In addition, the process’ low energy consumption and the non-corrosive nature of the solvent is said to keep opex and maintenance costs down, also ensuring a high level of gas purity and product gas recovery while keeping solvent losses to a minimum.

The PFLNG Dua started up in February 2021 and completed its performance test run in May 2021.

Andreas Northemann, head of BASF’s Gas Treatment business, said: “We applied our onshore LNG expertise and conducted motion studies and computational fluid dynamics to ensure a …design which meets our customer’s stringent offshore specifications and challenges.”
