ABERDEEN, UK – Spirit Energy has produced first gas from the York field in the UK southern North Sea, following a life-extension project.

The company sanctioned the development last May. York, which had produced 45 bcf since start-up eight years ago, was originally due to cease operations in 2020, but should now deliver a further 18 bcf between now and 2023/24.

York produces through a not permanently attended installation, a four-legged jacket platform in 42 m (138 ft) water depth, 34 km (21 mi) from the Yorkshire coast.

Life extension activities included re-routing production from the Easington gas terminal to Dimlington, which has an onshore gas compression facility.

A well intervention to further optimize production should be completed later this year.
