LONDON – Production from the new B5 well has started at the Bittern oil field in the UK central North Sea, according to Tailwind Energy.

B5 is a side track of an existing Bittern well: the development involved a collaboration between Bittern operator Dana Petroleum (E and P), Waldorf Production UK, Petrofac Facilities Management, Stena Drilling, and Tailwind (a 64.63% partner in Bittern).

The new well was completed under-budget, encountering good reservoir quality with a gross oil column of 130 ft (40 m). Following drilling and completion operations it was connected to the Triton FPSO (operated by Dana) in October.

After an initial clean-up period, rates have stabilized at more than 5,000 b/d.

Tailwind is currently working on planning for a first-phase development of the Evelyn field via a single-well, subsea tieback to the Triton FPSO, with first oil anticipated by the end of 2022.

The company has submitted an environmental statement to the UK’s Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Pending approval, the company expects to take a final investment decision later this year.
