KØPERVIK, NorwayEquinor, on behalf of Norwegian gas trunklines operator Gassco, has awarded Wood Group Norway an EPCI contract for the MEG Upgrade project at the Kollsnes gas processing plant.

The facility in the municipality of Øygarden, west of Bergen, receives gas from the Troll, Kvitebjørn, Visund and Fram fields in the North Sea, and can process up to 144.5 MMcm/d.

Wood will upgrade the MEG (mono-ethylene glycol) regeneration handling capacity at the plant, for which Equinor is the technical service provider. Three new modules will be installed, including an MEG train, a chiller package, and a MEG export pump.

Under the NOK400-million ($44-million) contract, the company will undertake project management and engineering, with Kvaerner responsible for fabrication and installation of the fourth processing train for processing the MEG.

Construction will start at Kvaerner’s yard in Stord from late summer 2021. The module will then be completed and tested as much as possible prior to shipment to Kollsnes for installation during the second half of 2022.

Kvaerner’s project team will work on an integrated basis with Wood’s teams based in Sandefjord, Norway, and other locations.

The Kollsnes plant, which opened in 1996, receives around 40% of all Norway’s exported gas volumes. MEG, which is used to prevent hydrate formation and corrosion in the pipelines, is part of the wellstream coming to Kollsnes where it is regenerated.
